The Secret Life of a Book Blogger (Book Tag)

Howdy folks! As you are reading this, I am currently off sunning myself Nerja, Spain. Jealous? Yeah, I thought so. I didn’t want to be gone all that time without leaving you guys with a blog post, so I recently stumbled upon this tag which Paul at the The Galaxial Word participated in, and decided to try it out myself. It’s a get-out-jail free blog post for me, and you guys get to learn a little more about the blogger behind the blog …psst, that’s me, FYI. 🙂

How long have you been a blogger?

Oh jeez… hang on a second while I count my fingers…

I want to say… 2010? I first started a blog where I would share my sketchbook entries, and that was when I first discovered WordPress. I then started a course in Illustration in 2014, which was when I closed that blog and started Dean’z Doodlez, which is now simply DEANKEALY.COM, and in that same year I started this blog, WBW. So I guess this year marks 6 years of me blogging. WOW!

At what point do you think you’ll stop?

Well, I’ve been doing it for six years now, so unless something happens in which I can no longer blog, I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon 🙂

What is the best thing?

You guys, the readers. I love seeing your feedback on each and every blog post I make!

What is the worst thing?

Trying to come up with new ideas all the time!

How long does it take you to create/find pictures to use?

Well, I try to use as many of my own photos and/or graphics as much as possible, but if I’m feeling lazy, and it’s for a book review, I usually just pull it from Goodreads–and credit them, of course. If I’m taking/making it myself it usually takes 20-30 minutes after editing if it’s a photo, and it can take an hour or two if I’m designing graphics for the blog.

Which author would you like to have on your blog?

Well, I had E.R. Murray on the blog here back in June promoting her novel Caramel Hearts, and last week promoting The Book of Shadows, so I’m happy with that 😀

What do you wear when you write your blog?

Um…depends, really. Right now? Just a plain t-shirt and shorts. I usually just where whatever it is I’m wearing that day. I don’t have to be wearing anything in particular. Although, I do have to take my watch off. It starts to hurt my wrist after a while if I’m typing a particularly lengthy blog post.

How long does it take you to prepare?

Again, it depends. If it’s a book, it usually takes me a day or two after I’ve read the book to gather my thoughts and feels on the book and assemble them into words that are eligible to everyone other than myself. Sometimes I just make myself a coffee, start typing and hope for the best, other times I’ll write out bullet points on a piece of paper. Like I said, it depends on the blog post.

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

I think it’s great. Especially the Irish book blogger community. I’ve made so many new friends over the last 6 months alone.

What do you think one should do to have a succesful blog?

Just be a nice person. Reply with a smile to comments, don’t be mean, etc. Determination is another thing, as well as a love of what you’re doing. If you don’t love what you’re blogging about, it will show, and people will be deterred by that.

Who do you tag?

It’s at this point I should pick as many people as possible, but instead I’m not going to force anyone to do anything they don’t want to do. If you stumble across this post and like the idea behind it, feel free to do this tag, and be sure to shoot me a link so I can see it too! 🙂
