The Arrival by Shaun Tan

What drives so many to leave everything behind and journey alone to a mysterious country, a place without family or friends, where everything is nameless and the future is unknown. This silent graphic novel is the story of every migrant, every refugee, every displaced person, and a tribute to all those who have made the journey.

Author: Shaun Tan

Publisher: Hodder’s Childrens Books

Rating: 5/5

I was first introduced to this book by my best friends sister several years ago. Ever since, I have been on a hunt to find this book and own it, and that has finally happened! I thought I would never find it, until one day while I was in my local games store (who also sells graphic novels) and we were discussing amazing artists, and the owner just casually mentions The Arrival by Shaun Tan and nods to it over on the shelf, and to say I flipped out, is an understatement! I bought it there and then and left as quickly as I could so I could get home and read it.

The only thing is, you don’t so much as read this book as you do absorb and experience it (there aren’t actually any words in it)! Each page, each panel is a masterpiece–an artwork of excellence! This book is perfection. I cannot ridicule this book, as I have never had anything but praise for this book ever since I was introduced to it.
