Welcome folks to a new monthly feature that I am adding here to WeeBitWordy! Every month I will take the time to sit down and write about my favourite book and/or graphic novel, not necessarily released that month! For example, today I am writing about The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey.
NOT EVERY GIFT IS A BLESSING.
Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class.
When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. She jokes that she won’t bite. But they don’t laugh.
Melanie is a very special girl.
Emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end, THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS is the most powerful and affecting thriller you will read this year.
I got this book as a gift for my birthday last year and only got around to reading it in January. Why? Well, it took me a while to get into it to be honest. When I first started reading it last year when I got it, I just couldn’t wrap my head around it, so I put it down. I felt the same again when I picked it up last month, but I perceviered. I found the first 50 pages tough to get through, who know’s why, but once they were done, I fell in love with the characters. The book very much reminded me of The Walking Dead, but I guess it is a zombie apocalyspe world it’s in, so it’s hard not to compare it to that. But at the same time it was very different from The Walking Dead as it was set from the scientists/army/government point of view. They weren’t random civilian survivors who banded together in order to survive the apocalypse, these were the big guys trying to survive and they had one of them in their midst. The Girl, or Melanie, is my favourite character, and her view on the world is brilliant. She has no idea that she is a zombie, or what she is for that matter of fact, which makes it such a great read, as we go along with her to indeed find out what in fact she actually is.
If you are a fan of The Walking Dead, I recommend this book! If you love a good thriller and a book that you just don’t want to put down, I recommend this book!
Thanks for reading folks, and remember, this is just a spotlight on what my favourite book of the previous month was, and not a review. This is just my opinion on what I have to say on the book with being spoiler-ific!
Have you read this book? I would love to know if you have and what your thoughts are on the book! Let’s discuss in the comments 😉
