The Book Lovers Tag

Today on the blog I have a special post for you. This one comes with inspiration from Noelle over on The Banshee Irish Horror Blog. Noelle also runs the Books, Glorious Books Facebook Group, and from what I’m aware, they’re almost always open to taking in new members, so go check that out! The Book Lover tag is a series of questions that I will answer, mostly about my reading habits, what with me being a book lover and what-not! 😉

Do you have a specific place for reading?

Usually when I read, I’m in bed in the evening. Generally, though when I do go to read it will more than likely be on my bed. If I know I’m home alone and there’s no distractions, sometimes I go downstairs and sprawl out on the couch, and usually one of the dogs ends up sprawled across me too.

Bookmarks or random pieces of paper?

Oh gosh, it must be a bookmark! Unless the book I’m reading is an arc, then I will more than likely use the press release sheet of paper that comes with it as a bookmark.

Can you just stop anywhere or must it be at the end of the chapter?

I try and stop at the end of a chapter if possible, but that’s not always the case, like if I’m travelling on a bus for example, then I stop wherever, because I just don’t think the bus driver is going to wait for me to finish the chapter 😉.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

When I do, it’s usually a bottle of water, or some other beverage. Sometimes I like to have a coffee when I’m reading during the day, and there’s usually a few cookies or a pastry to go along with that coffee.

Music or TV while reading?

Music. I found out the hard way that I can’t read when the television is on, let alone be in the same room as it while I’m reading, because I get too easily distracted and end up watching whatever is on TV instead of reading my book, even if I don’t normally watch that TV show. When I do listen to music, it has to be played at a certain volume, not too loud—more like background music, and it has to be mellow and chill, and not stuff you want to get up and sing and dance too either.

I look like I’m asleep, but I’m not–I swear!

One book at a time or several?

I try and only read one book at a time, but if I’m in the middle of reading a book, and something new and exciting comes along in between, I’m more than likely to pick that up and start reading it. Then I remember the book I was initially reading and end up going back to that. I tried reading an e-book simultaneously as to when I was reading a physical book, but I kept getting confused as to what was happening in which book. Weirdly though, I can pick up and start and stop an audiobook at any time without it interfering with the book I’m currently reading.

Not gonna lie, this was my favourite photo of the lot!

Do you prefer to read at home or elsewhere?

Ooh, good one. I love reading at home, but there’s also something nice about reading at a coffee shop. I don’t know if it’s the perfect level of background noise, or the smell of the coffee, or what, but I really like it!

Read out loudly or silently?

It must be silently. I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand loud readers…

Again, I look like I’m asleep, but I’m not. Also: blurry photo is blurry >.<

Do you read ahead or skip pages?

I don’t read ahead, but… I can’t believe I’m telling you guys this…

Sometimes I go to the very last page before even starting the book and read the very last line, just to see if I can put it into context before the end of the book! Is that bad? I feel dirty now…

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Depends. If it’s a second-hand copy and the spine is already broken, even in the slightest, I don’t care; if it’s a new book I won’t go out of my way to break the spine, but if it breaks, it breaks—no big deal.

Just some of the books on my bookcase…

Do you write in your books?

Never! No-no-no-BIG NO! But, if it’s a gift, I don’t mind if someone writes a message on the inside, or if it’s a signed copy, but apart from that, I never put a pen or pencil near my books! Ew…

My copy of Caramel Hearts, signed by author E.R. Murray!

  1. I found this hilarious “Sometimes I go to the very last page before even starting the book and read the very last line, just to see if I can put it into context before the end of the book! Is that bad? I feel dirty now”..and my response..”How could you!! You bad bad book reader you!” hahahahah.

I really do need to get back to reading…which I have sadly not been doing much of. So thank you for this reminder of how awesome it is to read stories and have a movie play in my mind!
