24 Things I've Learned in 24 Years

I told you guys that I wouldn’t be posting on here today… guess I was wrong! I’ve didn’t want the fact that today is my birthday to take a blog post from you guys. Like I mentioned in Monday’s post, I’m trying to stick to a regular posting schedule here on the blog, and on top of that I want to start sharing different kinds of blog posts with you guys. I found that the place got a bit review-heavy, so I want to throw some lighthearted care-free posts into the mix every now and again, just so that every blog post I write isn’t a review of the latest book or graphic novel I’ve read. I did a quick ‘google’ to see what I could share with you folks, and a popular one seems to be “X Things I’ve Learned in X Years”, so without further ado, I give you: 24 Things I’ve Learned in 24 Years!

  1. Failure isn’t the end of the world. Didn’t get that piece of paper at the end of your course? Big deal, move on! The world doesn’t stop just because you didn’t get your degree.
  2. Not everyone is who they appear to be. Don’t take people for granted. Just because they’re nice to you in person, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s who they really are.
  3. Your close friends are the people who continue to love you despite your flaws and imperfections.
  4. Dreams take time. Be patient. You might not get to where you want straight away, but you’ll get there. Which leads me to:
  5. Easy success doesn’t exist. If you want to succeed, you’re going to have to work for it.
  6. Not everything has a happy ending. Not everything ends up like they do in the movies. Shit happens, life gets in the way, and sometimes things just don’t go the way we thought they would.
  7. There are good people in the world. Believe it or not, there are people out there who would give you the very skin off their own back if they could. They’ll do whatever they need to if they have means and know-how to help you.
  8. Even when you think you suck and that you’ll never amount to anything, remember that there are people in your life who think you’re awesome!
  9. Treat others as you want them to treat you, because:
  10. Karma’s a b*tch!
  11. Always expect the unexpected. Sometimes life hits you in the face with a sledgehammer, and sometimes it gives you a glorious reward.
  12. There’s something to learn from everyone. Every person you meet in life will teach you something new, either about yourself or the world.
  13. Don’t be afraid to try new things.
  14. Push yourself out of your comfort zone, try new things and experience life!
  15. Coffee, because coffee-coffee-coffee-coffee!
  16. Don’t know what you’re doing with your life? That’s OK. It happens sometimes, and something will always steer you in the direction your supposed to be going!
  17. Nothing is permanent. Change is good!
  18. Just listen. Sometimes we need to just shut-up and listen, whether it’s to what we’re being told, or whether you’re friend is having a bad day and needs to have a good rant, sometimes we just need to listen.
  19. Stress gets you nowhere. Fact!
  20. Budget. Save money, set some aside for the future, for travel etc.
  21. Stay up-to-date with the news. Either on your phone, computer or a newspaper, keep up with the news. It’s important to know what’s going on in the world.
  22. Not everyone is going to like you… and that’s OK, because you’re not going to like everyone either.
  23. You’re parents aren’t always right, but they are 99% of the time… and last but not least:
  24. Be yourself. Be who you truly are, and don’t let anyone stop you/tell you otherwise! You are important!
