Today I’m sharing with you guys some of the TV shows I’m most looking forward to this Autumn/Winter season on the aul’ gogglebox! I did something a little like this around this time last year, where I shared with you my most anticipated TV shows starting in 2016, and now I’m back with this year’s edition. We have 2 entries on our list today that are coming in at Series 2, but the other 3 are all brand-new TV shows starting that I am very much looking forward too!
1. Stranger Things (Series 2, Netflix) Release Date: October 27, 2017
The world and its mother has been watching Stranger Things, and if you haven’t, what rock have you been living under? I remember absolutely devouring the first series when it came out and I know I’m going to absolutely devour series 2 once that starts! The worst part about Netflix series is that they usually release all the episodes in the series all at once, meaning before you know it, you’ve watched the whole series and now don’t know what to do with yourself, where as with other shows, you get them on a weekly basis and get to gradually enjoy them. If you’re a fan of the supernatural and love a bit of spooky, apparently series 2 is going to be even spookier than the first as it’s set around Halloween. If this trailer alone doesn’t get you hyped, I don’t know what Will 😉 and if you haven’t seen series 1 yet: time to get binging!
2. Riverdale (Series 2, Netflix) Release Date: October 12, 2017
The second of the two series 2 shows I mentioned would be on the list, I honestly cannot wait for Riverdale to return! I hesitantly started watching Riverdale a couple of months ago when all my regular shows had ended for the summer and had nothing else to watch, and boy was I sorry I waited so long! I think I got through the whole series in a day and a half, if not two days. I loved everything about it, especially considering I had read a few of the comics as a kid growing up, I had a little bit of expectation when diving into this. It lived up to that and so much more. The music was what really hooked me on this show, to the point where I even bought the soundtrack to the series. Here’s hoping series 2 is just as good, especially considering the final episode ended on such a cliffhanger!
3. Star Trek: Discovery (Series 1, Netflix) Release Date: September 25, 2017
The first of three brand new series I’m really looking forward to this autumn/winter TV season, and while I’ll be quick to admit I’m not the biggest Trekkie fan, this looks really good. I jumped on the Star Trek bandwagon when the new trilogy of movies came out, and I remember watching numerous episodes of Generation when I’d get home from school as a child growing up. This being a prequel series, of sorts, I can’t wait to jump this new bandwagon along with countless others, no doubt, and join the Star Trek Universe.
4. Young Sheldon (Series 1, CBS) Release Date: September 25, 2017
OK, another one of those if you don’t watch/have never watched an episode of The Big Bang Theory, well what rock have you been living under? By far one of the funniest shows on TV at the minute, and now the main character Sheldon is getting his own TV series, going back to when he was a child growing up. This on the other hand, is taking a slightly different approach compared to TBBT, isn’t going to be a sit-com type show, it will be done a more traditional TV route, where it won’t be recorded in front of a live audience. I expect it, none-the less, to be just as good as TBBT.
5. Gifted (Series 1, Fox) Release Date: October 2, 2017
Last but not least on today’s list has to be the TV show I’m looking forward to the most of all these I’ve shared is Gifted. Gifted is set in the same universe/world as Fox’s X-Men movie franchise, along with Legion which was on not too long ago, and while I’m not too sure yet as to the timeline of when it takes place compared to the movies, we’ve got some familar faces to look out for. First up is Blink, an interdimensional teleporter, as well as Lorna Dane (aka Polaris, the daughter of Magneto) and John Proudstar (aka Thunderbird). If you’re a comic book geek like me, you’ll more than likely know who these peeps are, and if not, well let’s just say you’re in for a hell of a ride! Gifted is the result of a failed X-Men TV series which was meant to go ahead last year, and this is what came of it instead. I have high expectations for this one, and I hope it can follow on strong on the wave of the X-Men movies, and surf us through at least a couple of series!
And there you have it: My Top 5 Most Anticipated TV Shows coming your way this Autumn/Winter 2017! Of course, these are just a few of many new TV shows coming your way, and I’ve probably missed a lot of them. Along with these, I will also be returning to some of my favourite shows which include: The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, Agents of SHIELD, and so on and so… yes, I like super heroes…
